RINL trade unions defer strike

The trade unions of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant have deferred their threat to go on strike on May 6. "The extraordinary situation arising out of the second wave of Covid-19, its impact on steel plants, mining sites and various establishments our strike notice served on April 20 over wage revision and related issues has been put off till end of this month," Steel Plant Employees' Union President J. Ayodhyaram told Bizz Buzz. The need to continue medical oxygen production at this crucial juncture to save lives of many was also reiterated by Ayodhyaram, who represents the recognized union. Signed by all the trade unions including AITUC, INTUC and YSR Trade Union Congress, the notice stated that they would continue their struggle for Minimum Guaranteed Benefit of 17 per cent, 35 per cent variable perk on actual revised basic, 9 per cent pension benefit to all and simultaneous wage revision for contract workers.
